„Eyes Free“ - a small step towards an iCar
Apart from new MacBooks and Operating System, Apple revealed an interesting development for car owners at its last Developer Conference (WWDC) a few weeks ago. Starting within the next six months, cars from manufacturers General Motors, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Land Rover, Jaguar, Audi, Toyota, Chrysler and Honda, will have a command button mounted on their steering wheel. With this button, the driver can hear and compose messages, play music, use maps, set reminders and events with the use of his speech only - thanks to Siri. This way, the voice control for iPhones finally makes sense.
Apple's revelation of cooperations with car manufacturers brought an interesting idea of late Steve Jobs back to the surface. According to board member Mickey Drexler, Jobs was dreaming of an own Apple Car, a so called iCar. Drexler said, Jobs was unhappy with the car designs and imagined a complete overhaul of the US car industry.
However, with the development of „Eyes Free“, Apple has made a small step towards putting its stamp on the car industry.
