They were highly popular in the 1950s and 70s and then again about 10 years ago - the human-powered vehicles with a handlebar that are moved forward by the rider pushing one foot off the ground. While the euphoria among kids and some grown-ups to use scooters as their choice of locomotion has slowed down since then, some people kept not only riding but experiencing their scooters in new ways. That's how a vivid around-the-world scootering scene has established that pushes the limits of this sport regularly.

A few weeks ago, some of the best scooters worldwide met in Linz, Upper Austria, to test their skills in Austria's largest indoor skatepark and compete against each other at the annual Big Time Scootering competition. Their spectacular tricks and moves that can be admired in countless videos really do qualify freestyle scootering as an extreme sport.
