It’s one of the biggest festivals in Europe: the Nova Rock in Nickelsdorf provides top-acts each year. This time around 160.000 fans came to see some famous gigs on two stages like Iron Maiden, Motörhead, Linkin Park or System Of A Down.
It was no flood this time, only sunny: 160.000 made the pilgrimage to the Pannonia Fields in Burgenland past weekend to witness the first highlight of the festival summer just at its beginning.
Three days it was a most spectacular line-up to bring the musical heat to those music enthusiasts who were already hot, thanks to the sun.
It was dust and good music. As always the organizers provided a couple of stages to the fans, where they could meet their musical taste.
Tom Higgenson and his Plan White T´s were rocking through their current album „The Wonders of the Younger“.
Andrew Stockdale and Wolfmother proved to be still on the edge of their musical output on Saturday. Australian rockers with strong links to Led Zeppelin-music played through their entire portfolio with a focus on the first, selftitled album.
Steven Ansell, half of Brighton-rocker Blood Red Shoes, showed, that he is basically up to indie rock with his partner Laura-Mary Carter, although denying this musical reference after signing up to a big label.
But also Berlin is hitting the chords hard – proved by Jennifer Rostock. Lead singer Jennifer Weist took care of a short afternoon with their mixture between a revival of new wave and some capital city rock.
The holiday offered one huge gig after the other: Boysetsfire-frontman Nathan Gray demonstrated that also years after the reunion the fire still burns within the postpunk-band.
Swedens Maja Ivarrson and her Sounds showed some alternative to the hard rocking schedule with a crossover between club-sounds and electronic and became somewhat of the weekend-surprise.
But we come back to the hard tones for the finals. The armenian-american cultband System Of A Down – nobody was expecting them to reunite with the original staff – finished off Nova Rock. Missing new songs though, System once more were heating up the crowd with their hits like „Chop Suey“ or „Hypnotized“.
